Popular music channel, MTV Base has responded to the raging controversy over the Top 20 Best Ever Naija Tracks which has continued to rage a week after it was broadcast on the cable TV. The list, which was aired on October 1 to celebrate Nigeria’s Independence Day and called The Best Naija Songs Ever on MTV Base set the social media space aglow with criticisms aimed at the station for the list which many have described as not representing the history of music in Nigeria, has drawn a response from the station. The station says the list, featuring notable artistes and songs, was determined by viewers of MTV Base who voted via the MTV Base website www.mtvbase.com to choose their musical favourites starting from the channel’s launch on 22 February, 2005 till the present day. Operatives of the Inspector General of Police Task Force on Anti-Pipeline Vandalism have arrested a self-confessed politician, Wahab Junaid, for vandalising a Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation pipeline in the Obafemi/Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State. The officer-in-charge of the task force,ACP Friday Ibadin, said Junaid, aka Doctor, was one of the unit’s most wanted pipeline vandals. He explained that Doctor was arrested at Ifote village in the local council. Punch learnt that Doctor had allegedly been arrested and arraigned three times, but was discharged and acquitted. However, the 59-year-old politician said he went back to vandalism in order to raise money to contest a political post in 2015.He said,“After I regained my freedom in 2012, I stopped anything that has to do with pipeline vandalism.“I am an active member of a political party in this state (Lagos). Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau has dismissed Nigerian military claims of his death in a new video obtained by AFP on Thursday, today.Nigeria’s military said last week that Shekau was dead and that a man who had been posing as the group’s leader in the videos had been shot dead after fighting with troops in the far northeast. But in the 36 minute video obtained by AFP, Abubakar says he’s very much alive and that the militants has implemented strict Islamic law in captured towns.“Here I am, alive. Pastor Eliud Gwamna Mshelizza of the Living Faith Church, a teacher with the Government Girls Secondary School Shaffa alongside 17 others were killed in separate attacks on Wednesday September 24th and Thursday September 25th after Boko Haram members launched an attack on Shaffa and Shindiffu villages of Hawul LGA in Borno State. The sect men were said to have arrived Shaffa at about 8pm on Wednesday September 24th and after ravaging the village, proceeded to Shindiffu village on Thursday September 25th. They burnt down about 10 churches including E.Y.N No:I, E.Y.N No: II and III in both villages. Many of the sect members were however killed by Nigerian troops who came in from Adamawa and Biu during an ambush as the Boko Haram men were leaving the villages after the attack.

A day after an Ayo Fayose loyalist was shot dead by unknown gunmen, hoodlums went on a rampage destroying the campaign office of the state governor, Kayode Fayemi, as well as the APC secretariat. The thugs also destroyed properties belonging to other politicians. Today's chaos is believed to be an aftermath of the assassination of the former chairman of the Ekiti state NURTW, Mr Omalafe Aderiye.
